We recently completed a bespoke sand kitchen installation for a day nursery, creating a dedicated space where children can immerse themselves in sensory play, imaginative role-play, and collaborative learning.

What Is a Sand Kitchen?

A sand kitchen takes the concept of a traditional mud kitchen and adapts it for sand-based play. Equipped with a large trough for sand, work surfaces, shelves, funnels, and plenty of space for exploration, it allows children to scoop, pour, measure, mix, and create using natural materials.

From baking imaginary cakes to running their own outdoor café, children are free to direct their own play and learning.

Our Recent Nursery Installation

For this project, we had a brief of 'a mud kitchen, but for sand', so we designed and built a robust, nursery-friendly sand kitchen that complements the setting's outdoor learning environment. The installation was carefully planned to encourage open-ended play while providing a safe and durable resource that can be enjoyed throughout the year.

The completed space has quickly become a favourite among the children, offering countless opportunities for exploration, creativity, and discovery.
